What People Say

Most Liked

Patrons rave about the Chicago-style hot dog, topped with mustard, onions, relish, tomato, and sport peppers, capturing a taste of the Windy City.

The Italian beef sandwich is another favorite; perfectly dipped and packed with flavor that users can’t get enough of.

Regular customers often mention the crispy chicken sandwich, noting its juicy texture paired with perfectly seasoned breading.

The milkshakes have earned their own fanfare, especially when paired with a nostalgic feeling of childhood treats.

Lastly, the casual outdoor seating adds to the charm, allowing diners to soak in the local vibe while enjoying their meal.

Most Disliked

Some customers note that the restaurant is cash-only, which can be a hassle for those who prefer card payments.

During peak hours, the quick service can turn into long lines, making the wait time feel longer than necessary, especially on busy Fridays.

A few patrons have mentioned that the outdoor seating can get chilly, particularly in the evenings, but they do provide a heated stand area.

Occasionally, the limited seating inside can lead to crowded dining conditions, which might not suit everyone’s comfort level. However, the communal atmosphere can be appealing to many.

Also, while many love the simplicity of the menu, some diners wish for a bit more variety or rotating specials to keep things exciting.

Went for National Hot Day but I’ve been going to this location for 20 years. It’s witched ownership but remains amazing. Upgraded the exterior and seating. Dogs come with fries. Always get a bottled Coke…a must. It completes the meal. You can take the Blue Line Western stop. Follow it up with a Margie’s shake or sundae after….1/4 block away👍🏻

Great spot! Window service w a couple outside tables. Cash only - which I prefer. My beef and fries were really good! Just steps off the blue line…

It's literally a tasty meal and affordable. As soon as I took the first bite of my cheeseburger, there were so many flavors my taste buds detected. I really recommend this place to anybody. And very respectful, polite cashiers. And yes, I know I should have also tried out the desserts 😓

It’s my last evening in town and I couldn’t leave without having one last dipped italian beef sandwich… noticed 4.5/5 stars average, decided JR’s Red Hots was going to be my last diner in Chicago… I come up every few years… but I know the next time might be in a few years. Anyways long story short… this food is delicious. Outdoor seating is a little cold this evening but they have a super clean standing heated eating area… my neck is getting a tan as I write these words! Haha Had to try their hot dog and milkshake!

Good ol' hot dog stand. Chicago dog was tasty. Vinegary flavor, fresh toppings, good snap on the wiener. Chili cheese dog was exactly what you want in a chili cheese dog. Messy af and piping hot. Tasty fries cooked to order. Pizza puff is a pizza puff 😆 Not necessarily a destination, but if you're passing by and want a quick, tasty bite it'll do.
